Tires of the tractor are different in Size
Before understanding the reason why the rear tire of the tractor is big and the front tire is small, it is important to understand that what is a tractor and how is it different from other vehicles? Actually, the tractor is derived from the word ‘traction’, which means to pull. That is why tractors are known to carry heavy loads.
A Misconception – A tractor Engine is Powerful
Everyone thought that the engine of the tractor is very powerful. But this is not true. Just because the tractor is capable of pulling heavy things, it does not mean that its engine is powerful. Even the engine of a simple car is more powerful than the engine of a tractor. Despite this, a ‘tractor’ can easily pull much more load than its capacity as compared to a ‘car’.
What exactly is the reason behind this?
If a normal car and tractor are compared, then the engine capacity of ‘tractor’ is only 2 third of the ‘car’ engine, but torque (the ability to spin or pull the wheel) in the tractor is one and a half times more. By reducing the speed of the tractor with the help of gear, it produces more traction or torque than the car. This torque works to pull the load in the tractor. The pulling force of the tractor is called ‘traction.
Reasons for installing bigger rear tires in tractors
Actually, a tractor works easily in mud or mud as compared to a car or bike. Cars and bikes tend to slip or get stuck in the mud due to low grip or traction, but the tractor slips easily due to the large rear tyre. By installing large rear tires in the tractor, the tire does not sink in the mud and maintains good grip.

Reasons for putting smaller front tires in tractors
Smaller front wheels make it easier to turn the tractor around. It is very important to do this for any tractor because the tractor has to move around a lot of areas to do different types of work (ploughing, sowing and harvesting). The smaller front wheels also make it easier to see ahead while working in the fields. That is why the front tires in the tractor are small.
Actually, the engine of the tractor is ahead, so it is necessary to install bigger wheels to balance the weight. Another advantage of installing bigger tires is that when the load has to be pulled, the tractor does not lift from the front.
In the last few years, such tractors have also come in the market, whose front and rear tires are of similar size. In this type of tractor, all four tires are fitted with big size. During this time, due to the power in all four tires, the tractor also gets good ‘traction’ due to which it does not get stuck even in the most difficult places.
