Recognize the Rank of the Police Officers Seeing their Uniform by Star on the Police Uniform
Some people have had a dream of joining the police force since childhood. Wearing a police uniform gives a different look to that officer. But this uniform is not easily achieved. It takes hard work to get it. To get this uniform, the youth of the country work hard day and night and give IPS exams. After being successful and fulfil their dreams, they get the uniform.
After being recruited in the police, different posts have different uniforms, from which they are recognized. But it is a bit difficult for a common man to recognize by just looking at the uniform, the rank of an officer. Today, we will tell you the way to recognize the rank of the police officer by his uniform.
Constable
The first post in the police department is that of a constable. There is no badge or star on their uniform.
Head Constable
The head constable is one rank above the post constable. On their uniform, there are two yellow stripes on the black stripe. However, in many other states, the head constable’s uniform is different, in which there are three black stripes on a broad red stripe.
Senior Police Constable
The rank of senior police constable is above both constable and a head constable. In their uniform, instead of the badge, there is a yellow stripe on top of the black stripe, but in some states, the badges have red stripes.
Assistant Sub Inspector
The rank of ASI i.e. Assistant Sub Inspector is followed by Head Constable. Their uniform also has a star with a blue and red stripe.

Rank of the Police Officers
Sub Inspector
ASI is followed by the rank of a sub inspector, which is considered the officer rank. This post is equivalent to a Subedar of the army. Their uniforms have red and blue stripes along with 2 stars.
Inspector
The Inspector has in charge of any police station, all the people under him in the police station obey his orders. Their uniform has a red and blue stripe on which three stars are attached.
Deputy Superintendent of Police-DSP
The Deputy Superintendent of Police or DSP is the representative of the police of any state. They have a red and khaki badge on their uniform and three stars on the badge, but no stripes.
Assistant Superintendent of Police-ASP
ASP means Assistant Superintendent of Police, also known as Additional Deputy Commissioner and is one rank above DSP. The Ashoka Pillar as well as the IPS logo are on the ASP uniform. Police training of officers also takes place under this rank. Apart from this, the uniform of the Additional Superintendent of Police is also similar.
Superintendent of Police
Superintendent of Police i.e. SP, also known as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and is a rank above ASP. Ashoka Pillar and another star are printed on his uniform.
Senior Superintendent of Police- SSP
SSP i.e. Senior Superintendent of Police is one rank above the Past SP. They are posted in big cities and the whole district is under them. An Ashoka Pillar and 2 stars are mounted on his uniform.
Deputy Inspector General of Police- DIG
IPS is written on the badge of DIG i.e. Deputy Inspector General of Police and three stars are also mounted with Ashoka Pillar.
Inspector-General of Police- IG
IG means Inspector General of Police. There is a sword and star on his uniform and IPS is written on the badge.
