Ashwagandha in Covid Recovery: The cases of corona infection have passed more than one and a half years worldwide. During the second wave of corona infection, people faced serious complications of infection. There are sufficient medical facilities in our country still the age-old Ayurveda medicine not only attracted the attention of the people but also benefited the people. Especially during the second wave of the corona, people used all kinds of medicines to get rid of or stay safe from Covid-19 infection. Ashwagandha is one of those Ayurvedic Medicines which benefitted many people.
In the Corona period, Ayurveda experts tried to find a cure for the disease through traditional medicine based on research and various studies. Taking a step forward in this direction, now UK’s London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine together with the Ministry of AYUSH has taken the initiative to find the treatment of corona through Ayurveda. In this direction, scientists will find out how important Ashwagandha can be in recovery from Covid-19. The study will be done on 2000 people
There have been many kinds of research on the medicinal properties of Ashwagandha in India, but this is the first time that the Ministry of AYUSH has tied up with a foreign institution to know about the benefits of this drug in Covid-19. According to experts, this study will be done on 2000 people in Leicester, Birmingham and London, whose aim is to know whether this herb (Ashwagandha) can help in faster recovery from Covid-19?
A study will be done to know the benefits of Ashwagandha
According to health experts, although Ashwagandha juice, tablet and powder are also available in many formats in India, the participants in the research will be given Ashwagandha tablets. They have to take 500 mg tablets twice a day. All the participants will be monitored for a month on various aspects including quality of life, mental health, and adverse effects (if any).
This study will be important
For three months, one group of 1,000 participants would be given Ashwagandha tablets, while another group of 1,000 participants would be given a placebo, explains Dr Tanuja Nesari, Director, All India Institute of Ayurveda. The placebo pills and taste will also be exactly the same as that of Ashwagandha. Patients and doctors, however, may be unaware that which group is being given a placebo and which group is given Ashwagandha pills? Based on this study, an attempt will be made to know about the benefits of Ashwagandha in the recovery of Covid-19.
All the benefits of Ayush-64 medicine have been seen
At present, special attention is being paid to research in Ayurveda. Regarding this, recently the Minister of State for AYUSH, Mahendrabhai Munjapara told the Rajya Sabha that the Ministry is conducting extensive research on the effectiveness of AYUSH drugs to contain the outbreak of Covid-19. The corona drug AYUSH-64, introduced by the Ministry of AYUSH, has already been found to be very useful in asymptomatic, mild and moderate symptomatic infection of the corona. The ministry is constantly working towards enhancing the credibility of Ayurveda through innovative research.
