Moreover, according to the researchers, 10 billion to 100 billion particles of SARS-CoV-2 can be present inside an infected person at the highest level of infection. When the coronavirus is at its peak, about one million to 10 million people can be infected worldwide at that time interval. Based on both the data, it was concluded that the total weight of the coronavirus present in all these people could range from 0.1 kg to 10 kg at the peak of the epidemic.

According to the study’s lead author Ron Milo, a professor in Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science’s Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences helps in collecting the first data of this study. These data were about the particles of SARS-CoV-2 present in various tissues of an infected monkey during its highest level of infection. To extract these data, samples of body parts such as lungs, tonsils, lymph nodes, and digestive tract tissue were taken from infected monkeys in the study. Coronavirus affects these parts immensely.
How Much Can a Corona Virus Weigh-in an Infected Person?
Virus particles present per gram in monkey tissue were multiplied by the mass of human tissue and the results were obtained. The diameter of the coronavirus has already been ascertained from previous calculations. According to which the mass of each particle of the virus is about 1 femtogram. Combining the diameter of the coronavirus and the number of virus particles present in the infected person during the highest level of infection, it was found that an infected person can contain from 1 microgram to 10 micrograms of the coronavirus. Also according to the researchers, a load of coronavirus particles in an infected person or the total number of infected people around the world can depend on the severity and level of infection.
