Indian Railway is the largest rail network in the world. Every day it helps millions of people for their movements either for work, job or for vacation and migration. Indian railway is known as the backbone of the Indian transportation system. However, there are also some interesting facts related to the Indian railway. One of the facts includes the introduction of Air conditioner Coaches in the Railways.
92 years ago in September Indian railways (however under British rule) introduce an Air conditioner coach in Frontier Mail. This oldest train is still under-functioning. However, the name of the train is changed. In September 1928, the first-ever AC coach in the Indian railway was introduced on this train.

An innovative technique by Indian Railway to provide AC coaches
The AC coach of Frontier Mail was quite innovative. Railway uses Ice slabs in order to make the coach cool. After some stations, these melted ice slabs were changed with the new one to keep the cooling intact. The fans attached to the compartment helps in transferring the coolness of Ice to each and every seat. This is the first AC train in India.
Frontier mail was always on time and its journey starts from Mumbai that ends up on the border of Peshawar. It completes 2335 km of traveling in just 72 hours without any delay.
Apart from Britishers many freedom fighters also traveled
Many freedom fighters apart from Britishers also traveled by this train. It is also known as the emblem of India’s freedom struggle. Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, and INA founder Subash Chandra Bose also used this train for travel. Moreover, in 1996 the name of frontier mail changes to Golden Temple Mail or Swarn Mandir Express. This train also comes with a special feature of news updates to travelers. However, the internet was not in use at that time still the news agency Telegraphic news provides updates to travelers.
